I’ve got a much safer way. 1. You get a pet bed, “cuddle cup”, or something else that they like to relax on/in. 2. Set it bedside their cage. Pick the guinea pig(s) up and over the cage rungs and set them in the pet bed. 3. Pick up the pet bed and put horizontal tension on it at a 90° angle of their body so as not to bend their spine the wrong way. 4. Carry them to wherever you would like. If picking them up to snuggle then set the pet bed on your lap and let them crawl out and onto you if they choose to. Do everything in reverse when placing them back in their cage - carry them in their bed to their cage, set it down beside their cage, pick them up out of their pet bed, lift them up over the cage rungs and set them down in their cage. This way, they’re NEVER in your bare hands for more than just a few inches high - just enough to lift them out of their cage and onto their pet bed. It doesn’t matter how skillful and steady your hands are, they can ALWAYS find a way to squirm out of your hands, particularly children. And often times, drop injuries occur when returning them to their cage rather than when picking them up and out of their cage.

I prefer getting my animals from a pet shop. That way it's a baby and not an elderly animal. Rescues are higher chances that a person may get an abused and mean guina pig. No thank you.

i hate people who have one guinea pig. even with the research done they still pick out one guinea pig. if you want a social pet who needs to be in a pair then you have to get 2. if you cant commit then that then you need to find a pet that can be alone with no issues

I live with my mom and dad due to having seizures it's to dangerous for me to live by myself but don't worry I have a amazing life my sister recently moved out like a week ago I've been turning her old room into a gaming/art room and I want a pet because it gets kinda lonely now that my sister is gone we had a guinea pig before when I was younger it was my sister's after a bit she ended up giving him away later on we found out he died with his new owner and now that I'm older I have realized we didn't treat him right the cage he had was definitely small we only had one and I think we hardly gave him any veggies mostly just hay and guinea pig food we were young at the time we make mistakes I been wanting a pet but was unsure witch was the right pet for me my dad is friends with are neighbor they chat almost ever other day well I went over there for the first time he has two guinea pigs I fell in love most adorable things i have like ever seen I loved how he had there cage it was really nice if I was to get a guinea pig I would get two they get far to lonely and im almost always at home so don't worry I can be there for them almost any time and i know to get them veggies! But this is just a idea my mom afraid he well make the house smell I try telling her I'm putting them in the room that is farthest from the living room I plan to put them in the game room so they can be my gaming buds I well have to probably put them in my bedroom when my nephew come over there a mess lol but we might be going to the pet shop tomorrow I guess we decided then! NEVER USE HUMAN SHAMPOO. It contains harsh chemicals that will harm you piggy. Please only use specifically made small animal shampoo. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

i’ve had my two piggies for a year a a few months now and they are still so skiddish!!! i give them treats, treat them well, play with them, everything a guinea pig would LOVE! they don’t let you free hand pet them or pick them up☹️i just want to love them and hold them. i also forgot to mention i get very nervous when trying to pick them up because i don’t want to hurt them

I inherited my Guinea Pig.. his name is Buster .. he’s adorable and my friend bought him from Petco at 11 months old . Supposedly he wasn’t a rescue piggie but the petco near me said they are much younger when they get Guinea pigs in their store .. so buster being 11 months old makes me worried that he’s been back and forth between homes and he was caged at petco being alone .. so my friend purchased one piggie and so again I took him as he couldn’t take care of him the way he needs to be cared for . Me and my 16 year old daughter seem to be doing good . Problems …. I guess my friend told me he was returned by another family already so then my friend took him and then he gave him to me .. Buster is very nervous and will not let us pick him up period. This makes it hard to clean his cage which I plan on getting a bigger one shortly . I got him at the last minute so I didn’t have time to search for a larger option . So next week I can get a larger habitat surroundings for him . Also I feed him veggies every day. Romaine lettuce , carrots , cucumbers , Italian parsley , red bell peppers , kale , and he refuses to eat any of these veggies .. I keep putting them in his cage each day and try to get him to try the veggies but he refuses to eat any. He loves apple , so not every day but 3 times a week I give him some apple seeing he’s not eating any veggies . Of I’ve tried broccoli crowns too .. I tried watermelon he does not like it . I’ve tried pears he seems to like those .. please if you see my message please give me some advice as to what to do . I speak to him every day and I’ll pet him until he gets nervous . He bit my daughter’s finger making it bleed . I don’t think buster meant it but he just seems very scared .. we are so very good to him and again I speak softly to him all the time. I feel as though he’s been not treated right in the past so he gets so nervous . I know he’s a prey animal but by watching these videos it seems that the piggies tend to get used to their owners . They pick up their Guinea pigs and can brush them even .. he won’t let me brush him . I’ll give him food from my hand and he’ll grab the apple the other veggies he doesn’t . Please anyone give me some advice on how to get him his vitamin C which I am worried he’s gonna get sick if he won’t eat veggies .. thanks so much !

What brand of kiln-dried pine shavings is dust extracted? I have been doing research and I cannot find any that says the dust is extracted.

For a long time I wanted rats as pets, but when I went to summer camp they had a place where you could pet animals and stuff and they had a Guinea pig there who I just LOVED and he loved me (I could tell his emotions because of my knowledge on rats and also when I got home I looked it up again just to make sure). So now I’m considering getting Guinea pigs (but rats are still number 1). <3

I really need to get my guinea pig a bigger cage

We are pig sitting 3 females for my daughters classroom over the summer. Considering getting 2 of our own when they go back. What im curious about is how much of their diet can be made up of grasses, flowers, etc. Everything i read says to give them only small amounts for treats and feed them only timothy hay, and i understand they should always have hay available, but in the wild their diet would be varied and not primary one type of hay, right?

Mine hate it. Have to wrap them. I started using these wire like cutters. So much easier and quick. Also mine are 6 years old now. I have 2. One has one very thick nail on the back. Normal clippers won't work. So i just use these wire clippers. They work well and very quick. Using regular clippers if can't fit over that one thick nail. Also it takes me longer and scares them longer.

I'm in the United States in Virginia. Exact same story with my Vet experience except my cost was 415.00. Then she didn't get better so I took her back 6 days on antibiotics that was a recheck for 149.00 dollars. They gave me a different antibiotic at that time. 3 days later I took her back for more x-rays per my request before I had to put her down😢to make sure her legs or spine were not broke bc she also would not walk this whole time either. I never believed she had UTI but after the 3rd and last visit which was 526.00 which were for x-rays of her legs and spine which showed everything was fine it made me wonder if she had had some kind of stroke. So over$1000.00 and never got better and don't know what happen to her, she was only 2 and was fine and then she wasn't. 😢I miss her so much. It is so hard to have to let these little things go.

I use chopped rape straw, which is similar. It rots down really well, clumps when wet and is easy to spot clean. I clean my cage every 2 days in problem areas, and give a big clean out only when necessary. I find it very economical too. In the uk you can put it in your green bin (garden waste), which you can’t with shavings.

Good advice! Certainly something we struggle with when picking up one of the skiddish piggies!

I adopted my niece's hamster who came in.....yes, a pet-shop cage! AND a small wheel and ball 😢. All went in the bin 😀. I set up a large home for him, he had everything a hammy could wish for. Buddy was already an elderly gent,(approx 15 mnths) but he was one happy boy who lived another 8 months. He passed away peacefully and stress free. He now rests in my garden 🙏. It worries the life out of me that pet stores put profits before care! 😢 Your Piggies are adorable and you are another of my favourite people who are a voice for our Furry Family 😍

Everyone seems to think fleece is cheaper because you re-use. But is it? If you factor the gallons of water, laundry soap, the constant sweeping (ok thats labor) it's really more expensive.

Can a make a mix of all appropriate vegetables or only one vegetable a time ?? Eg. a mix of some cilantro, peppers, apple ?
